How Zsolt Staník became a part-time writer...

For decades ZS lived in the fascinating world of atoms, nuclear reaction and reactors and was surrounded in his everyday life with the language of the trade. Read the following example of a text ZS has been used to in his everyday life:

"Light water moderated reactor using slightly enriched fuel elements, a few millimetres in diameter, can in certain cases be considered as homogeneous because the minimum free path of electrons exceeds the size of heterogeneity, and the heterogeneous structure has a negligible impact on the neutron behaviour."

On second thought it became clear to ZS that such texts could clarify nothing to no-one. One day while relaxing on the banks of the Balaton Lake in Hungary it suddenly came to him that he was not sure that he himself could communicate his knowledge with the man in the street. He realized that it was not in his power to do this. What a pity, he sighed to himself, and went on sunbathing. Not many people would find short stories on nuclear physics by ZS interesting, let alone amusing, ZS realized. It also dawned on him that there was another world – the everyday life of people which was inspiring, often amusing and one he might be able to handle. From this came his first short story The Handicapped Piglet which was published in one of his books of short stories The Trombone Player and the Queen´s Pretty Buttocks.

This was followed by dozens of other stories and books inspired by everyday life, all dealing with absurd situations and normal human challenges. You are free to elaborate. They are designed to ease the stress of everyday life, to be read on your way to work in a not too crowded bus or train, on the banks of the river or lake, to give you a good night´s sleep.

Hoping that he has succeeded, ZS wishes you pleasant reading.
